Hanami Dango

Yay, a request for more Japanese food!
(more to come when it stops raining)
This is for my fellow manga/anime geeks.
Hanami (flower viewing) is rather dear to me since I hope to name my future daughter Ohana (beginning of a flower).

What you need:
Worsted weight acrylic yarn
in pink, white, and green
Size F5 (3.75 mm) hook
Polyester fiber fill
Bamboo skewer
Yarn needle
Clip to keep place
Scissors
Hot Glue (optional)

 Dango:
Work in continuous rounds
make 3, one of each color
  • Chain 2
  • Round 1: Work 6 sc in first chain
  • Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
  • Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 st
  • Round 4-9: sc in each sc -18 st
  • Round 10: *Sc2tog, sc in next st, rep from * around - 12 st
  • Stuff firmly
  • Round 12: Sc2tog around -6 st
  • Sew up and weave in ends  (be sure to leave room to slip onto skewer)

 Assembly:

Slip each dango onto skewer. From bottom to top they should be; green, white, pink.
Trim end of skewer about 3 inches longer than dango stack.
Optional: secure between dango with hot glue.

This would be a great gift for any anime fan.
Pack in a box of artificial sakura petals.
Leave plain or paint kawaii faces on them.
