National Lazy Day

Did you know yesterday was national lazy day? Did you celebrate by being lazy? Although I did a photo shoot in the morning our afternoon was spent at a local pub for LEBOWSKiFEST. Much Dudeness, drinking, costumes, and trivia was had.

Although I did not win the costume contest (and the free bar tab) I did haven't have too high a tab since I got a discount for wearing a costume, and my friends the bar tenders both thought I should have won.

Does the female form make you uncomfortable, Mr. Lebowski?

I need to see you. I'm the one who took your rug.

Okay, you get the picture. I went as Maude Lebowski from the big musical number.

A day before the event I crocheted the hat and shoe lacing and made a quick bowling ball bra (if I had had more time I would have painted a coconut bra gold)

The hat was made completely out of scrap yarn. The helmet was made using two strands of Vanna's Glamour yarn and following my Anime Cat Hat base. After the hat was finished off I used a K (6.5 mm) hook and still using double yarn I chained a chain that went from the center top to the bottom edge of the hat, I added two extra chains and DCed back across. This strip was sewn to the center front of the hat. Next I repeated this process but made the chain long enough to go around the bottom edge of the hat. The horns were worked with an I (5.5 mm) hook  in continuous rounds.

  • Chain 2
  • Round 1: Work 6 sc in first chain
  • Rounds 2-3: sc in each sc -6 st
  • Round 4: Work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
  • Rounds 5-9: sc in each sc around -12 st
  • Round 10: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * - 18 st
  • Rounds 11-12: sc in each sc arond -18 st
  • Finish off leaving long tails to use to sew horns to hat

I sewed each horn on hat stuffing them right before I finished sewing.

The braids are long pieces of scraps of a bulky yarn braided like my Lassie Hat. I wrapped long strands of the Vanna's Glamour around them for an accent.

My sandal lacing was just long chains of double Vanna's Glamour chained with a K hook. I slip knotted them on some cute sandals and WA LA! Instant gladiator sandals.

The Dude abides!
