Pepper the Pocket Hedgehog

Under 4 inches long (with fur) this cutie will bring a smile to almost anyone.

What you need:
Four size 8 DPNs
Eyelash yarn (A)
(I used Lion Brand Fun Fur)
Worsted weight acrylic yarn (B)
(I used Red Heart Super Saver)
A scrap of contrasting yarn for eyes and nose (C)
Polyester Fiber Fill
Yarn Needle
Scissors

Hedgehog:
  • Using yarn (A) cast on 24 stitches and divide evenly on 3 needles -8 st per needle
  • (leave tail of yarn to sew up end after stuffing)
  • Rows 1-15: K
  • Row 16: Switch to yarn (B) K
  • Row 17: K1 K2tog K2  K2tog K1 on each needle -6st per needle
  • Row 18: K
  • Row 19: K1 K2tog K2tog K1 on each needle -4 st per needle
  • Rows 20-21: K
  • Row 22: K1 K2tog K1 on each needle -3 st per needle
  • Rows 23-24: K
  • Row 25: K1 K2tog on each needle -2 st per needle
Do not cast off. Cut yarn about 6 inches from project and tread onto yarn needle. Ease each loop off DPNs and run yarn needle through each loop and pull tight. Tie several knots and weave in end. Turn to right side and stuff with fiberfill.

After stuffing sew up furry end of hedgehog using the tail you left when you started knitting.
Using yarn (C) embroider nose and eyes.
You may need to fluff up your hedgehog by picking at the stitches with your fingernails.

And now you have your very own little hedgehog.

Make them any color!
