Amigdalota

Ever year a local Greek Orthodox church puts on a Greek Food Festival. This year it fell on the day of my physical so it was a good excuse to go as a reward for not screaming and running out of the doctors office. I must report the stunning result of my blood tests, perfect in all fields. I had the right amount of vitamins, cholesterol, and blood sugar. Yay me! Back to the fest- my husband and I always get a piece or two of spanakopita and tiropita. And what is a Greek celebration without pastries? We splurged and each got a lovely piece of baklava.

Another favorite Greek treat of mine is Amigdalota. It is a melt in your mouth cookie made with almonds. I particularly like the ones with candied cherries on top.

Red

Finishing touches:

To give the cookie an authentic look I surfaced crocheted from the back loop only row to the center top along each increase line. (The first one line I did looked horrible but the others all looked great.) I wove in all the ends. Next I cut a length of tan yarn and sewed the cherry to the center top of the cookie. I sewed from the top to the bottom of the whole cookie to help flatten the bottom of it.

It looks almost good enough to eat.
