My Cat's Favorite Mouse

Weezer's favorite toys have always been those cheapy half moon mice from the pet store. He kills them easily so I made him some that could take the abuse.
Do kitties love toys?
Do kitties like to hide toys?
Are you ever going to find that toy that he/she batted under the fridge?
Probably not.

Instead of moving that heavy appliance or driving to the pet store right at closing, why not whip up your kitty a super easy mouse using scrap yarn.

Weezer was helping me today since he didn't want to lose sight of his mousies
What you need:
Worsted weight cotton yarn
Size F (3.75 mm) hook
Polyester fiber fill
Embroidery floss
Embroidery needle
Yarn needle
Clip to keep place
Catnip and bells, optional

These mice are Weezer tested and Weezer approved.
He has already managed to lose one under the fridge and I keep finding them in random places around the house.

Mouse Ears:
Work in continuous rounds
Make 2

  • Chain 2
  • Round 1: work 6 sc in first chain
  • Slip stitch to first stitch and finish off leaving tails to sew to body

Mouse body:
Work in continuous rounds

  • Chain 2
  • Round 1: work 6 sc in first chain
  • Round 2: work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
  • Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 st
  • Round 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 24 st
  • Round 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 30 st
  • Round 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 36 st

Fold circle in half, sc the open edges together.
Just over the half way point stuff with fiber fill, catnip, or toss a bell in.
At end chain 10, break yarn and pull end through last chain.
Sew on ears, be sure to secure them well, you don't want your kitty to swallow one.
Embroider on a simple nose and eyes.
