This weekend I went to a steampunk convention. I was a little nervous because I didn't have a themed costume but I pulled out an Victorian Gothic dress, a mini top hat, corset and hoped for the best. I worry too much, everyone at the con was super sweet and friendly and loved my get up (especially my coffin purse). I'm still waiting for some of the great shots from the con, I will be sure to share a few when I get them.
Anyway... back to crochet.
The lovely little gears would be beautiful as embellishments on costumes or starch them to make lovely steampunk Christmas ornaments.
What you need:
Metallic crochet thread (I used size 5 but 10 would be amazing)
Size 0 (2.55mm) steel hook
Needle
Scissors
Small Gear #1:
Chain 10, slip stitch to form ring
Chain 1, sc 20 around ring, slip stitch to close
*Chain 3, sc 2 (down chain) slip stitch 2 (sc from previous round), repeat from * around
Small Gear #2:
20 dc in a magic loop, pull loop tight and sl st to first dc to close round
*Chain 3, sc 2 (down chain) slip stitch 2 (dc from previous round), repeat from * around
Large Gear:
Chain 10, slip stitch to form ring
Chain 1, sc 15 around ring, slip stitch to close
Chain 8 (counts as dc chain 5) skip two stitches, *dc, chain 5, skip two stitches. Repeat from *, slip stitch in chain 8 to finish round
Chain 1,*sc 7 in each chain space, sc in dc, repeat from * around, slip stitch to finish row
*Chain 3, sc 2 (down chain) slip stitch 2 (sc from previous round), repeat from * around
I recommend blocking these gears. I didn't in the pictures because I was so excited to show them off.
Here's a shot from our lunch break. My skirt is flared at the bottom but it didn't show up in the shot. Don't you love my new hair color? It's so bright and sassy.
