Yeah, it's been a while but while working on another big gift of play food I had a little burst of inspiration.
What you need:
Small amounts of worsted weight yarn in 2 colors
Size F (3.75mm) hook
Polyester fiber fill
Clip to keep place
Yarn needle
Scissors
About half way around add a tiny amount of stuffing to the ball portion of the mushroom top. Do not over stuff. Finish sc around edge.
The bottom will feel a little smaller than the top but that helps give the mushroom it's shape.
Bottom of the mushroom
work in continuous rounds, do not join
- Chain 2
- Round 1: work 6 sc in first chain
- Round 2: work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
- Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 st
- Round 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 24 st
- Round 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 30 st
- Round 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 36 st
Finish off, break yarn, set aside
Top of mushroom
work in continuous rounds, do not join
As you can see it looks a bit like a little hat
- Chain 2
- Round 1: work 6 sc in first chain
- Round 2: work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
- Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 st
- Rounds 4-5: sc in each sc arouns - 18 st
- Round 6: Front Loops Only *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 24 st
- Round 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 30 st
- Round 8: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 36 st
Do not break yarn
Set bottom underneath the top and sc along the edge to join
(make sure right side is facing outwards)
Stem
work in continuous rounds, do not join
- Chain 2
- Round 1: work 6 sc in first chain
- Round 2: work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
- Round 3: sc in each sc around -12 st
- Round 4: sc2tog around -6 st
- Rounds 5-12- sc in each sc around -6 st
Finish off, break yarn leaving a small tail for sewing to mushroom. Position and sew on bottom side of mushroom.
