White Squirrel

Although rare in the wild, white squirrels are a common sight at several local state parks and wildlife preservation centers. 
My husband claimed this little guy before I had even made him. He loves squirrels.


What you need:
Worsted weight yarn
Eyelash Yarn
Size F (3.75 mm) hook
Size I (5.5 mm) hook
2 12mm safety eyes
1 12mm safety nose
Polyester fiber fill
Yarn needle
Clip to keep place
Scissors


Body:
Work in continuous rounds
Worsted yarn with F hook
  • Chain 2
  • Round 1: Work 6 sc in first chain
  • Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
  • Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 st
  • Round 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 24 st
  • Round 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 30 st
  • Round 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 36 st
  • Round 7-10: sc in each sc - 36 st
  • Round 11: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 30 st
  • Round 12:  *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 24 st
  • Round 13: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 18 st 
  • Set eyes
  • Round 14: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 1 sts, rep from * around - 12 st 
  • Round 15: sc in each sc - 12 st
  • Partly stuff head (you can firm this up later)
  • Round 16: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 st
  • Round 17: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 24 st
  • Round 18-21: sc in each sc -24 st
  • Round 22: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 18 st 
  • Round 23: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 1 sts, rep from * around - 12 st 
  • Stuff firmly
  • Round 24: sc2tog around -6 st
  • Finish off and weave in ends

Ears:
Work in continuous rounds
Make 2
  • Chain 2
  • Round 1: Work 6 sc in first chain
  • Round 2: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 9 st
  • Round 3: sc in each sc
  • Fold in half and sew along bottom, leave tail of yarn to sew to head

Arms:
Work in continuous rounds
Make 2
  • Chain 2
  • Round 1: Work 6 sc in first chain
  • Round 2-4: sc in each sc
  • Leave tail of yarn to sew to body

Legs:
Work in continuous rounds
Make 2
  • Chain 2
  • Round 1: Work 6 sc in first chain
  • Round 2: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 9 st
  • Round 3-5: sc in each sc

Tail:
Eyelash yarn I hook

Chain 11
sc across -10 sc
*chain 1 turn, sc across -10
repeat from * till you have worked 10 rows
Fold in half and sew around edges


Assembly:
  1. Sew folded ears to head.
  2. Sew unstuffed legs to bottom of body and unstuffed arms to sides of body.
  3. Cut a tail of worsted yarn and stitch tail to back, be sure to secure the tail up to half way up the back. This makes sure the tail stays upright.
  4. Weave in all ends
